Eating Disorders
There's a lesson to be learned from the Terri Shiavo case that hasn't gotten much notice: Eating disorders can kill. Terri had a heart attack, when she was in her mid-20s, that resulted from a potassium deficiency that was caused by an eating disorder. Before the paramedics started her heart again her brain had been deprived of oxygen long enough to cause enormous damage. This put her in the condition she was in for the last 15 years. Anyone with an eating disorder should seek professional help. This is important, but these warnings get lost in all the talk about obesity epidemics.
